Grimp Day 2014 Participants in action!

Grimpday! The international challenge which brings search and rescue teams from around the world together (firefighters, civil defense, military, and police).

The event took place on the 7th July in Namur, Belgium, teams competed against each other through rope rescue exercises involving all the unique elements used during search and rescue in hazardous environments.

The Grimpday event was created in 2006 by members of Namur’s regional fire department. The 2013 edition took place on Saturday, June 8, 2013, in the beautiful Belgian city. Petzl are proud sponsors of the event, supporting the initiative that reinforces the development of effective techniques for rope rescue rescues in hazardous environments.

For the first time, there were two intercontinental teams among the 34 registered: a Canadian team from Vancouver, and a Brazilian team from Sao Paolo. The Brazilian team livened up the atmosphere on the streets of Namur, dancing from each exercise to the next, they even received a special prize from the city! They were true ambassadors for Grimpday, choosing to descend from the lofty citadel to meet with the general public below.

This years sun-drenched first urban Grimp Day edition was a complete success. The public learned about basic rope rescue techniques through the various exercises on display. The event took place in an unforgettable atmosphere. The technical capabilities of each team continues to improve year after year, with particuarly notable standouts methods in terms of team management.

Three teams of firefighters stood on the final days podium. The Berlin firefighters occupied the top spot, followed by firefighters from Venice (who won 1st place in last years Grimp Day), third place was won by the firefighters from Brussels, who had a very successful event.

The general opinion among those who have visited or watched each years footage is that Grimpday has become a reference in the vertical world of rope rescue. The final days evening’s awards ceremony had never seen such enthusiasm, event organizers are already busy coming up with new ideas for next year... we know we want to be there!... will you?
