Counterfeit Petzl products are not a new phenomenon.

  • Counterfeit headlamps with the Petzl logo, including headlamps from the TIKKA and MYO lines
  • Counterfeit copies of PPE without the Petzl logo, such as the Petzl Ascension and the Petzl ASAP for example.

February 2011 is the is the first time Petzl have discovered identical-looking counterfeit PPE products that also feature the Petzl logo.

Counterfeit products have serious defects that affect their performance and strength as you can see in the examples below:

There is significant risk to users of these counterfeit products as they could open or otherwise fail at low loads and under normal use:

  • These counterfeit products do not meet UIAA or CE safety standards.
  • These counterfeit products do not meet Petzl safety and quality requirements.

It will be very difficult for you to identify these fakes yourself:

They have been reproduced in a way that makes them very difficult to identify. The following features have been reproduced nearly identically:

  • Petzl logo
  • Design
  • Color
  • Product markings
  • Batch number
  • Instructions for use (down to the most minor details)
  • Packaging

Only an in-depth analysis by Petzl (Lyon Equipment in the UK) of the products in question will positively identify counterfeits. Counterfeits are identified by minor differences in the tools used to produce them.

Petzl is working hard to stop these counterfeits, which put users’ lives at risk, from reaching the market. Please help find counterfeits by checking any of your equipment that matches the items discussed.
